Who we areThe church is not a building, its the people.
We are a group of ordinary people from many different backgrounds and nationalities, doing ordinary jobs just like everyone else, who are grateful that God has rescued us from the penalty of our wrongdoing against him through faith in Jesus Christ.
Our aim is to have a living relationship with the living God through his Son, Jesus Christ. God speaks to us today through the Bible, and it teaches that we are to worship him with the whole of our lives. When we meet together as a church for corporate worship we seek to be accessible and contemporary, but also reverent in our approach.
We are an independent evangelical church. ‘Independent’ means we are not governed by any wider church group but operate independently. We are affiliated to the Fellowship of Independent Evangelical Churches, a grouping of around 500 similar churches throughout the UK.
‘Evangelical’ means we aim to base our lives upon the teaching of the Bible and therefore seek to:
- Live our lives to the praise of God, our Creator and Saviour
- Understand and teach God’s Word for God’s world
- Learn to live and to care for one another
- Take the Gospel, and practical help, to a world in need
‘Church’ does not mean the building, it means a group of people who are followers of Jesus Christ.
The church is run by a leadership team, which includes a fulltime pastor.
Meet the leaders
Under the headship of the Lord Jesus Christ the church is led by a team of elders and deacons.
The elders are David Huband, John Lewis, Paul Kassell and Charlie Fadipe. Charlie is our full-time Pastor and heads up our leadership team.
Charlie has been the pastor of Calne Free Church since 2011. In his free time Charlie enjoys watching Rugby and being with his family. You might occasionally catch him going for a swim at the local pool!! Charlie trained as an Electronic Engineer and then went on to work in IT in banking. Charlie is married to Rachel and has two children.
Paul, originally from Yorkshire, moved to London to work with BT but found a wife, Avril, as well! They stayed in London until their children had grown up and moved away. After a few years teaching in Tanzania, they moved to Calne in 2013. They love to walk and are delighted to be so close to the countryside.
David and Ruth have been married for over 25 years. David is a Project Engineer working for a local agricultural engineering company and is responsible for the design and construction of grain drying and storage installations. Ruth is a retired midwife.
